Summer is in full swing here in the Eastern US with heat wave after heat wave rolling on through, punctuated by gusty thunderstorms – a summer made in heaven by my standards! I adore the heat (truth be told, living on a river helps when it gets crazy hot) and adore a good ‘ole thunderstorm. However, when company comes to call, throwing them in the river to keep them cool isn’t always the best option – so I love keeping a frosty semifreddo at the ready to help guests cool off.

Buona estate a tutti!! Happy summer! The summer heat is upon us and if you are like me, you are always searching for that easy refreshing summer dessert that keeps you out of the kitchen and in the pool. Cue the beach music. Enter the Italian dessert ‘semifreddo’.

‘Semifreddo’ is one dessert that you are probably not making but should. It is the laid back cousin of glorious gelato and its preparation requires little making it an ideal ‘go to’ treat for lazy, hot summer days.

World Nutella Day 2009 finally arrived!! So many ways to use those little jars of hazelnut/chocolate goodness!! Memories of late night post-grad exams with jars of Nutella – Nutella and banana on pita was a late night staple; finger-dipping sessions straight out of the little jar a close second. (Yes, I gained a few pounds during my post-grad education.)  So after a few hours of Nutella recipe web surfing, I settled on a tasty Toasted Coconut and Nutella Semifreddo.
